<hi style=afpcap>The first of three different designs to be allocated the name Globemaster, the C-74 was the result of a requirement for a long range heavy transport aircraft. The Douglas C-74 was based on the C-54 but with a circular section fuselage. The first production aircraft, illustrated, was delivered in October 1945 with the last of 14 ordered entering service in April 1947. Although the C-47 and C-54 were the backbone of operations to resupply Berlin during the first Russian blockade, the C-74 also performed several sorties. </hi>
